Here's what we've done the first day.
During the first three periods we were informed by the coordinator of the programme, Trevor Lewis, about the different forms of education developed by the school.
It is really admirable how many different paths pupils can follow to achieve their goals and diploma depending on their capacities.
We also visited the different spaces in the school and talked to the teachers. It is shocking the high number of areas where students can be along their stay every day.
Some corridors have been decorated based on the subjects taught in this area . Some examples are Economics and Maths, English, History, Science, etc.
During the week, the school will be holding a
project dealing with sustainability, so many classes are devoted to this issue.
It is also mighty different to our School and system the high number of areas where students can freely take a seat, not accompanied by any teacher.
A visit from a primary School
The school is receiving a group of students from
a local primary school just as part of another project to improve the Level of English on both sides, primary and secondary pupils.
In this two way direction project, pupils from secondary school interact with a group of younger learners for a while, reading them stories and playing games.
It is really interesting to observe the
connection between 12 year old pupils showing 6 year old students how to participate. The class has been divided in small groups. Thus, a student who is just 12 will be the leader of the group for a while.
It is shocking how students who were not paying attention in the previous lesson and who were told off by the teacher are now some of the ones selected to lead the activities. They are doing really well and they are focussed on the activity.
It's been a really productive day!!
